QUALITY OF LIFE
ADDING "LIFE TO YOUR YEARS", NOT JUST YEARS TO YOUR LIFE!
As we progress in our years, the thought of our “quality of life” moves more and more into the forefront of our minds.
“I want to preserve my health over the next 20-30 years”...
“I want to be healthy enough to continue my independent state of living”...
“How do I stay fit enough to play/keep up with my grandchildren”...
Whatever your goal, whether it’s to maintain or improve your current physical state, it is very important to incorporate some sort of physical activity (even light bouts of activity) into your weekly routine. You want to feel young and to be able to continue doing all of your daily activities with ease. Many women will go to the endth degree to hang onto the fountain of youth. Obviously we cannot stop the aging process, but we certainly can postpone aging and add quality to our older years by taking care of ourselves, staying active and accepting our changing bodies! After all you are only as young as you feel!
For many older adults, goals should be real and functional. If you are relatively fit and into your 50’s, you are probably still working and want to maintain or improve your fitness; or maybe you have a sport specific goal of walking or running in that next charity drive. If you are into your 60’s or 70’s, perhaps you have recently retired and now your goals are more functional such as wanting to be able to continue driving, travelling, doing your gardening or your laundry – all of those daily activities that we need energy and strength to do! In our more youthful years we tend to take the ability of performing many of these everyday tasks for granted! Even the simplest of tasks takes a minimal amount of strength to accomplish! And if you don’t use it – you lose it!
A lot of being physically active is simply mind over matter! There is a lot more to physical activity than just the physical! Studies show that just simply having a good attitude and staying positive can actually add another 7-8 years to your lifespan! Amazing thought isn’t it? But what good are those years, if they are spent with illness or in pain and suffering.
I want to “ADD LIFE TO YOUR YEARS”, not just years to your life.
The term “Exercise” does not have to be a scary thought for the baby boomer and beyond! Fitness can be fun! You just have to find what you enjoy and what works for you. Maybe it’s one-on-one training in the comfort of your own home, or maybe it’s finding a fun group class to attend with a friend! Exercise has been known to relieve and improve many chronic conditions such as Arthritis, Diabetes, Osteoporosis, lowering Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), lowering High Cholesterol levels, aid in recovery from Heart Attack/Stroke, lower back pain and much, much more!
As a qualified Older Adult Specialist you can be sure that I will design a safe and effective program for you and help you set “realistic and obtainable” goals. I will work along with you (and your doctor if applicable) to make fitness fun and meaningful to you and your quality of life.
